Sophia Ngo, LCSW, PPSC
You've probably been the strong one for as long as you can remember. Maybe you grew up in a home where feelings weren't really talked about, or you're the first in your family to even consider therapy. Either way, you've been carrying a lot, and you're tired of just pushing through it. I'm Sophia Ngo, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and first-generation Vietnamese American therapist based in the Bay Area. I specialize in working with Asian American and BIPOC individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, racial identity, and intergenerational family patterns. Many of my clients are adult children of emotionally immature parents who are ready to break old cycles and finally feel like themselves. My work goes beyond traditional talk therapy. I use approaches like EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing®, and Tholáge® Neuropsychotherapy to help clients process trauma at a deeper level, along with somatic and emotionally focused techniques that bring the body into the healing process. I believe lasting change happens when we address root causes, not just symptoms, and when therapy honors culture and identity as central parts of who you are, not just background details. Whether you're dealing with anxiety that won't quiet down, the weight of unprocessed trauma, or a deep sense that something needs to shift, I'm here to walk alongside you with care, honesty, and zero judgment. I offer individual therapy, therapy intensives, and consultation for fellow BIPOC and AANHPI therapists building their own practices. You don't have to keep doing this alone. I offer telehealth across California and in-person sessions in Santa Clara of the San Francisco Bay Area in CA.
Approach to Therapy
My Approach to Therapy I don't believe in surface-level fixes. My goal isn't to hand you a list of coping skills and call it progress. It's to understand what's actually driving the pain, the patterns, and the parts of you that feel stuck, and to work through that at the root. That means looking at the whole picture. Your history, your culture, your family, your body, and the things you've never quite had words for. I bring in approaches like EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing®, and Tholáge® Neuropsychotherapy because trauma and stress don't just live in your thoughts. They live in your body, and real healing has to include both. I'm also a first-generation Vietnamese American, and I understand firsthand what it's like to navigate two worlds, carry expectations you never agreed to, and manage emotions that were never really discussed at home. You won't have to explain that part of your experience to me.
